Grefrath-Oedt - The pearl at the river Niers

The former independent community Oedt is with ca. 4.500 citizens the second largest village of the sports and leisure community Grefrath today. Destinations are apart from the castle ruin of the Uda castle as well as the Local Museum in the Girmes-Villa also the Auffelder Bauerncafé.

Uda Castle - Landmark of Oedt

The Uda Castle was built around 1300, housed the Oedt Amtshaus and served as protection for the prince-archbishopric Cologne. At the end of the 18th-century invading troops blasted the stronghold.

The castle tower was renovated for the '700 year Uda Castle' in the year 2013. Further information about Uda castle is available at the website 'burg uda de'.

Camper caravan site 'Niers-Perle-Oedt'


In close proximity to the castle is a small idyllic meadow, which is ideal for resting and picnics. Towards the main road is one of the many campsites, the 'Niers-Perle-Oedt'.

Villa Girmes - Monument of Oedt's textile industry


The Villa Girmes in Oedt is a remnant of the once flourishing textile industry at the Lower Rhine. The factory site is in parts listed. Today the white villa serves as Oedt's Local Museum and as Grefrath's city administration.
